Father Fish Aquarium is home to an amazing variety of tropical fish, both salt and fresh water. Father Fish is first and foremost a hobby shop catering to the novice and the serious hobbyist. Customers visit Father Fish expecting to purchase a hard to find part or receive in depth information about the care of their pets.
River Monsters
There are always new and unusual animals at Father Fish. The TV program River Monsters has spurred an interest in keeping fish that grow very large or are voracious eaters. Some of these animals are restricted by the Florida Fish and Wildlife agency. Others are available at Father Fish for the adventurous hobbyist.
Recently we acquired a true Tigrinis, a false Tigrinis and a Planiceps. All are shovelnose catfish from the Amazon basin. We always have barracuda, arrowana, red tail cats, gar and hundreds of other species of fish available. In fact, whatever you may desire, if it is legal we will find it and bring it to our shop.
Killifish Display
We recently completed construction of a bank of small tanks to house a variety of killifish. These are small, very colorful fish with remarkable life cycles. Some of them lie dormant for years as eggs until rain fills their pool. They hatch, mature and breed, sometimes in a few months. Their eggs may remain dormant for many years before another rain brings them to life.
Coral Farm
New advanced LED lighting has allowed our salt water display to nurture hard to keep corals. Currently there are about 25 varieties available with more coming. In addition Father Fish houses at least 50 species of salt water fish.
Plants
Father Fish maintains a large collection of aquatic plants. Nearly all of our tanks contain a variety of plants. We strongly recommend live plants in all home aquaria, excepting, of course, tanks containing voracious plant eaters such as silver dollars and apple snails. |
